LISTEN to the latest Episode! For the Love of Movies!
Theart Korsten and Nico Steyn have been friends forever. They share a lot of similar ideas, and their love for movies probably sits at the top of that list.
But they do not agree on the same movies.
Every week, they pitch one another different films, with a singular mission to have one list of the Top 100 Movies. Be sure to join them; you can even add your favourites to the "Bubbling Under List" and hear the friends review them!
I wanna NOMINATE a MOVIE!Let's get back in the Cinema
We're thrilled about the EGREK Cinema Experience. It is in Parkhurst, Johannesburg, and it is a high end private screening theatre, with only 30 seats. The best part, is that the Egrek also projects digital screenings AND they're going to participate in our project!
Every week we're giving away TWO MOVIE TICKETS to listeners who participate, commenting or interacting on the feed of our show. You'll have to listen to the Podcasts to find out more.

The 100 List
With only one episode done, this is the first batch of selected movies on Theart and Nico's combined and agreed list. Things are bound to get really sticky soon. Be sure to leave a comment and NOMINATE your suggestions:
The First Switcheroo Card!
In Episode #004, Nico played his first of three SWITCHEROO Cards, to offer Theart the chance to save Dune (1984, David Lynch) for the Top 100+ Movies List. He had to give up Tim Burton's Beetlejuice, which will fondly be remembered for it's wacky, off-beat humour and so-so special effects.
We'll still give the movie a nod, for once being on that list with the greats...
Bubbling Under List:
We've already had listeners add movies, and although we're not going to put them all in the show at once, we'll be sure to pick some of these real soon to include on the list!
Amelie, As Good as it Gets, Babette's Feast, A Beautiful Mind, Buzz Lightyear, Dead Poets Society, Gone in 60 Seconds, Immortally Beloved, Love Actually, Moulin Rouge, Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail, Monty Python and the Life of Brian, The Prestige, Tank Girl, Tin Drum, Metropolis, My Left Foot, Schindler's List, Toy Story, Lord of the Rings, Baghdad Café, Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption, In The Name of the Father, Kolya
Alan Smithee
Alan Smithee (also Allen Smithee) is an official pseudonym used by Film Directors who wish to disown a project through the Director's Guild of America.
Coined in 1968, it was used until it was formally discontinued in 2000, after the 1997 film An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn, was released, in which a man named Alan Smithee (Eric Idle) wishes to disavow a film he directed. But he is unable to do so because the only pseudonym the he is permitted to use, is his very own name!
The film was directed by Arthur Hiller, who reported to the DGA that HIS producer had interfered with his creative control, and successfully removed his own name from the film. Alan Smithee was credited instead!
Alan Smithee Award
Our very own award, to films that deserve a mention, even it isn't for exceptionality...

Martha Wynne Snetsinger & Jane E. Still
The Worst Costume in Movie History
Nico did not agree with Theart, to have Jumanji (Joe Johnston, 1995) on the Top 100+ Movies List, but awarded Costume Designers, Martha Wayne Snetsinger & Jane E. Still the Alan Smithee Award for the worst costume design in all of movie history.
More About Us
Theart Korsten
My first memory of watching a film was on a Saturday night when my parents rented a 16mm projector and my mother hung a white sheet in our living room. The magic of those moments have stayed with me ever since.
My love of film and all other elements that make up the business has enabled me to have a career. Life has imitated art and I believe a great film stays with you for a lifetime.
Revisiting some of the films that most impacted my life is what this is all about. We will hopefully have a consolidated list at the end of all of this as well as a friendship that is still in tact.
Nico Steyn
What gives me the the right to critique movies on a Top 100+ list? I've made two of them in my time. Although they weren't great, the experience nevertheless informed the deep respect and admiration I have for all film makers.
Making movies is no picnic. It is part of a superbly complex creation machine, and a real miracle when movies are even completed - let alone become box office successes their Creators can share with audiences around the world.
This is my tip of the hat, in celebration of a marvellous art form that is MOVIES. I hope you enjoy it with us!
